Meet the New CRB-AAMAE Members and Officers

Jan Henderson, CMA, MEd, RN, currently teaches online for students in the Medical Assisting and Allied Health Educator programs for Eastern New Mexico University in Roswell, New Mexico. She previously worked for Baker College in Michigan as an instructor, program director, and system dean. In 2001, she and her late husband Phil with beagle dog Chip moved to Burleson, Texas to be a support system for her daughter and family who live in Arlington. Her greatest joy comes from being a grandma to Tim, Abby, and Sarah Clifford and Phillip Henderson.

She has been a program surveyor for many years and previously served on the Curriculum Review Board. Her interests are teaching, alternative healing therapies, theater, and travel. She is a registered nurse, Certified Medical Assistant®, and a certified herbalist. She likes the musical group Pink Martini, 57 Chevy's, and peach ice cream. Her future plans include a trip to see her son and family who recently moved to Belgium.


George Fakhoury, MD, DORCP, CMA is the Academic Program Manager for Healthcare for Heald College, and is involved with its Allied Healthcare Programs at its 11 campuses spanning three western states. He practiced medicine in Sudan for many years and holds a diploma in Obstetrics from the Royal College of Physicians in Dublin, Ireland. He was also a practicing Gynecologist in England before moving to the USA. He sat for the CMA exam to set an example to his students.

He is an active site surveyor for the American Association of Medical Assistants for many years, as he believes in donating his time for a good cause to a great organization. He is also a Subject Matter Specialist for a national organization and conducts site surveys for the organization at various professional arenas. George is a regular attendee at the AAMA national convention each fall.

In his spare time, George is a philatelist (stamp collector) and has a huge collection from more than 100 countries. He also volunteers his time and effort in his local church.


Cheryl Hutchison, CMA, CPC, worked as a medical assistant/office manager for a dermatologist from 1972 to 1997 doing both clinical and administrative tasks. In 1990 she had an opportunity to become an adjunct instructor in the medical assistant program at Southwestern Illinois College (formerly Belleville Area College), Belleville, Illinois. She continued working in the medical office and teaching until 1997. In 1999 the position became available for coordinator/instructor of the Medical Assisting Program at SWIC, and she currently holds that position. Cheryl has served as the Illinois Society of Medical Assistants president, as well as other various offices. She has served the Southern Illinois Regional Medical Assistants as chapter president several times and became a surveyor for the CRB-AAMAE in 2004.

She is a Certified Medical Assistant® since 1977 and has recertified every 5 year since that time. In 1996 she became certified as a certified professional coder and has continued to recertify every year.

The 2007 officers of the CRB-AAMAE are Joyce E. Garibay, BA, CMA, CRB-AAMAE Chair, and Eugenia M. Fulcher, BSN, EdD, RN, CMA, CRB-AAMAE Vice Chair. Joyce and Genie are moving the Board forward with the many projects the CRB-AAMAE has before them with the implementation of outcomes based accreditation and preparation for the CAAHEP Standards revision, due in 2008.
